Sci-Fi Showcase: The Doctor meet The Great Physician!
So last week I introduced some of you to Doctor Who. Yes, he’s a time-lord from the planet Galefrey with the chosen name “The Doctor” who flies though space and time in his TARDIS . Sci-fi is fun because in it we convey our hopes, fears, and beliefs all in the realm of story telling. The Sci-fi Showcase this past week was “The Doctor… who?” and we took a look at The Doctor and his desire to “make people better”. The thing is at best Doctor Who is entertaining but fictional, he can’t really make everyone better. On the other hand, an inspiration for the character is very real, and has to power to makes us better indeed. The Bible is briming with this image that God wants to heal us; “…for I am the LORD, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26, “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,…” Jeremiah 30:17, and then theres my favorite, “who forgives all your sins, and heals all your diseases” Psalms103:3. It’s all talking about Jesus! Jesus wants to make people better, but not just from their sickness, but better all around, he wants us to be free from our sins.
This is a cry to us who know Jesus, we have been seeing The doctor to heal ourselves but pass the dying on our way. We have friends, family and strangers that are in need of “medical” attention. It’s hard because we are scared to share our faith ( I mean what if they don’t want to hear it), we figure we should talk about God at church and not at school or work. But as Christians we have been made like Christ, joint heirs and children of God and (since I’m running with this analogy) you have an “Honorary Doctorate” . You, as official medical staff, can take the sick to see the Doctor! Cuz it’s only by Jesus can anyone be made better. So Keep sharing Christ with your friends, be bold, talk to them, You never know who wants to know how to be cured. Some may push back and not want to hear it, but you never know until you try. All I know is I’ve been to the walk-in-clinc about 5 times this month do to sickness, I would love someone to tell me how to get better.
“On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17
Allons-y and Later Days!
Mr. Q
“Astrid: This Christmas thing? What’s it about?
The Doctor: Long story. I should know. I was there. I got the last room.”
